Arkansas Anthology 2009 is looking for outstanding writings!
The Arkansas Anthology is a collection of literary works written by Arkansas students and their teachers. The writings are judged, selected, and published annually by the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts (ACTELA), a non-profit professional organization for English teachers.

“Fillers”: Very short pieces such as descriptive sentences, original jokes, epigrams, metaphors, or similes. Up to five fillers make one $5 entry.
Grade-level judging: K-12 and adult, with students competing at their own grade levels. Judges will attempt to choose equal numbers from each grade level. Teachers may submit their own works.
Entry Fee: Each entry requires a $5 fee. Make checks payable to ACTELA. No fees will be returned.
Submissions: MS WORD diskette with a typed paper copy included OR as an email attachment OR just a typed paper copy if you don't have access to a computer.
Format: Entries must be typed. Each entry must include this statement signed by the student and co-signed by either a teacher or a parent/guardian: “This is my original work. I grant permission to ACTELA to publish this if it is a winning entry.” Each entry should include the following information: Student’s name, grade, and a mailing address for either the school/teacher or the student. Teachers should include their names with student entries!
Deadline: Entries must be postmarked by March 31, 2009.
ACTELA Membership: Although participation in our contest and anthology is open to all teachers and their students, ACTELA encourages teachers to join their professional organization. ACTELA is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English.
Selected authors will receive an award certificate by the end of the school year and a copy of Arkansas Anthology 2009 after it is published later that summer or early fall. A complimentary copy will be given to teachers who send the entries of winning students. Additional copies may be purchased for a nominal fee.
